Ian McKerrow Jr.

Year Inducted: 2018

Ian McKerrow JNR – affectionately known to the footballing world as Scrapper. Ian started his junior career in 1967 in the fourths where he was a member of the 1968 premiership team.

In 1971, 1972 he progressed through the thirds before moving into Reserves Football, where he was leading goal kicker in 1973 and 1975 seasons. 

Ian had a beautiful, long left foot, and in the mid 70’s, this attribute was used by moving Ian to the backline where he would progress into the senior ranks.

He was a member of the senior 1977 senior premiership team on a Half Back Flank and then again played in the 1981 Senior Premiership team, this time at full back. Scrapper matured as a Backman and had a reputation as one of the league’s best stoppers of key forwards.

Ian was a member of the 1986 and 1988 reserves premiership teams.

In 1990 Ian took over the captaincy of the reserves, and in doing so won the reserves Best & Fairest award and won the Mid Murray Football league goal kicking award. 

In 1993 Ian took over the reserves coaching role and again coached in the late 1990’s.

Ian spent 6 years as under 17 Coach, his first term was in 1981 and 1982, and then again in 1990 and 1991. He then returned to this duty in 1998/1999 and in this role, Ian spent a lot of time and had a huge influence on many players, the respect and friendship gained from this role are still prevalent today.

Ian spent numerous years on the general committee and has held down the role of line marker to this day.

Ian is our club’s games record holder, playing 22 Fourths games, 40 thirds Games, 383 reserves Games and 148 Senior Games – that equals 531 open age games, 62 junior games for an amazing total of 593 games representing the Woorinen Football Club.  

A true icon of the Woorinen Football netball Club, a very humble person and a worthy recipient of being inducted into the Hall of Fame – congratulations Ian Scrapper McKerrow.
