Ian Harold Lawson was born on the 12th of August 1926, and would become affectionately known to everyone at Woorinen as “Crunch”
Ian became involved in the club when he was a young boy of about 12 years of age, helping his dad mow the oval with his horse and mower.
He played a few games of football in the reserves, but this was not really his thing, instead he remained involved as a volunteer for the next 40 years of his life.
He helped the players by washing their jumpers each game, and then helped the club be ready for game days by marking the oval, cleaning the reserve and facility.
Ian would assist the younger players in the Fourths and Thirds by taking car loads to away games, and then making sure that all drinks were ready for all teams.
In 1967 he spent many hours of working on the construction of the new sheds.
At every opportunity Ian was there helping the club with their fundraising efforts, being involved in the stump drives, cleaning the irrigation channels, fruit drives, working bees and anything that would help his beloved tigers financially.
Ian was treasurer from 1967 to 1970, a committee member for too many years to remember and was on the Executive of the tigerlanders committee from 1980 to 1984. Ian was awarded life membership in 1963.
Ian loved the football club and was still attending most home games until his passing – he had a huge knowledge of past players, members and dates.
His greatest honour was to be asked to do the official opening of the new football netball rooms on the 19th of August 2017, in front of a huge crowd and with his family and friends. Sadly, Ian passed away the following day.
The club is so grateful that crunch had the honour of opening the clubrooms, and we recognise Ian Lawsons contribution to our club, with his induction into our hall of Fame.
